My name is Ivan Shao, a freshman at Stony Brook University majoring in Marine Sciences. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, I’ve always had a deep passion for marine life. My interest in marine life was sparked by childhood visits to the aquariums, where I was first fascinated by the ocean and its creatures.
My hobbies and interests have always been a part of me. I love photography, writing, and reading—especially with what these hobbies entail: the ability to explore different perspectives, think critically, and express my thoughts in unique ways.
With photography, I primarily shoot with my EOS Rebel T7 and love capturing the moments in our everyday life. Whether it's a random street corner I've never seen before, the sunset on the beach, or the simple existence of people being around, I love being able to document life through another lens.
In addition, writing and reading have been crucial in how I process and communicate with others. Being able to learn through reading and writing has allowed me to sharpen my creative skills, enhance my attention to detail, and open up my mind to different perspectives.
